A new contest is calling for inspiring true stories of pets or animals in nature helping children, parents, and families deal with life’s toughest challenges and issues — divorce and loss, learning disabilities, autism, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, congenital birth defects, cancer, deafness or blindness, bullying, peer pressure, and depression or mental health issues. Full description, rules, prizes, and entry form for this free contest are at http://www.angelanimals.net/contests.html. The deadline for entering is September 15, 2010. Early entries are considered first for inclusion in an upcoming book. We have checked and the contest is open to Canadians.

June 12 we are at Avenue Goes To The Dogs. Since its inception, Pet Therapy has participated in this event. Located at the Eastwood Community League 11803-86 Street it is lots of fun for young and old alike. Mother Nature made it very hot last year, but this year it should prove to be a bit cooler. Come down and visit our table and say “HI”. Looking forward to seeing you!

June 27th we are at Pets In The Park. The last Sunday in June finds us at Laurier Park (just by the Valley Zoo) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come see all the displays, demonstrations and animals that come to this event every year. A Silent Auction is in the main tent (where we will be) along with lots to buy and see. Come take a look at our table and introduce yourself and your pet to the teams that are there. Hope to see you there!

July 10 will find us at the Lions Gate Park in St. Albert in support of SCARs (Second Chance Animal Rescue) annual Tails on the Trails fundraiser. By going to their site and downloading their pledge form, collecting signatures & money then participating in their dog walk, you can raise awareness of animals in need and have lots of fun doing it. There will be prizes, food and fun for all ages. There are also display and demonstrations of all types relating to anything “doggie”. We will be there with our scarves on and looking forward to seeing you!!

Real Estate Weekly Article

One of the best kept secrets in Edmonton is becoming a little better known. The Real Estate Weekly publication featured an article on Pet Therapy and also included a picture of one of our teams visiting with a couple that reside at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Center. This publication was also an insert in the May 20th edition of the Edmonton Sun. You can access this article by logging onto www.rewedmonton.ca and look for the article “All for the love of a Pet”. There is also an upcoming article in the Edmonton Journal sometime during the week of May 17 – 23/10.

Hot Dogs for Hot Dogs was a fun night with plenty of food, fun and entertainment. Many thanks to all of you that donated items for our Silent Auction and the many members and their families that helped to make the night very memorable. A special Thank-You to Mayor Mandel, for his kind words and to Lori Friesen, our Virginia Cummings Bursary Award Winner, who made a special trip from California to attend our event & accept her award. Thanks!!

The Century Casino was the site of our Casino weekend on May 7 & 8/10 and as usual, was fun to “work”. We have been accepted by Alberta Liquor & Gaming to have another Casino in early 2012 which is always good news.

Dogsledding Fun!

Board and Society members Deb Bok and Janice Rowley are giving members, friends and colleagues the opportunity to enjoy some time dog sledding on weekends!

Some great fun has already been had this winter. Thanks to all those who have participated!

Please call Deb (780-476-8879) or Janice (780-484-5486) to book an appointment.

A small fee will be charged with all proceeds going directly to benefit the Pet Therapy Society.

Also, if you have a working dog you think might be a good dog sledding candidate, let Deb or Janice know!
